Dumplin'

By Julie Murphy

This book is about a self-designated fat girl named Willowdean. She is comfortable in her own skin with her perfect, model looking best friend, but has always wondered what it would be like to have the perfect body.

I like this book because the protagonist is not perfect or normal like they usually are in other books. This was a pretty good book, but it was pretty predictable. Over winter break I hope to read Tigers Curse and The Martian.

Slice of Life #1

I slip on my shoes and tie the laces. My phone blasts music into my ears, the background music to my life. I step out of the house and start to run. My feet carrying me to the end of the block to the next one. A few blocks down, a dog starts barking at me. The loud roars snap me out of my running trance and I stumble. The woman on the other side of the street looks over at me and quickly goes back to the baby in the stroller. I regain my balance and keep going. My trance returns and my mind floods with images and thoughts. Questions pop into my head with each foot step. Pictures of my friends and my family flow through my mind followed by trails of christmas and summer and everything. I'm not even paying attention to where I'm going anymore, I'm just going where my feet take me. Running and running.

Will Grayson, Will Grayson

By John Green and David Leviathan

This book is about two boys, both named Will Grayson, and how their lives intertwine. I liked this book but not as much as some of John Greens other books.  It has some funny parts and a some mature topics.

The genre of the next book group book I would like to read is realistic fiction because I really enjoy those kids of books and there are so many unique book in this genre that could take discussions so many different places.

This Poem is for the One Who Waved Back

The streets glittering with trash illuminate the peoples smiles
Their feet mark the plastic bottles on the sidewalk
Friends laugh infant of the gas station scarred with tags and broken glass
The case driving past blow plastic bags into the path of a mother and son, smiling and talking into a store
The man with a grin lacking of teeth waves at us and gives us friendly heroes as we pick up cheat bags and old beer bottles
This poem is for the one who waves back

Rooftoppers

By Katherine Rundell

After a ship reck, a baby is found by a man named Charles, floating in the middle of the English Channel in a cello case. They lived together for many years until the child services organization decides that it's time for her to live in an orphanage and lear how to be a proper lady. To prevent them from taking her, they go on a journey to find the girls birth mother.

I really liked this book. The characters  are reliable and it is a very good story. It was a very fast read for me. I really like realistic fiction books such as Wintergirls and Skinny.

By Mark Haddon

This book is follows the story of a boy named Christopher after he discovers the dory of his neighbors murdered dog. Christopher decides that he is going to solve the case of who killed him and write a book about it. Christopher is autistic and so it is through eyes that I have never look at the world with. I would recommend this book to people who like realistic fiction. I think that Abby would really like this book.

Holes

By Louis Sachar

This book is about a boy named Stanley who is wrongly accused of stealing and is sent to a camp from juvenile boys called Camp Green Lake where they dig holes all day everyday. During the book you learn about why they are digging for and the story behind the camp and some of the people into the story.  I liked this book because I have never read a book with a story like this and the characters were really interesting. My book would make a good movie because it has already been made into a movie and it was good.

This book is about a girl named Eva who's father died and she found comfort in romance novels. She read 118 novels, but when she met will, her own romance story began. I think this is a really good book because the characters were really relatable and fun and it was very interesting. It sounds kind of boring and like it has been done before, but it is a very interesting and unique story.

This book is about a girl named Katy Thatcher, who was growing up on a farm in the early 1900's. One day her and her father went to a farm to pick up a girl who was going work for them. At the farm, Katy met the girls brother, Jacob, who never talked and only worked on his family's farm. Wintergirls

By Laurie Hales Anderson

This book is about a girl named Lia who is an eighteen year old girl who is struggling with anorexia. The author really showed the thought process of Lia and how she looked at food and beauty well by writing everything that she thought, didn't think and couldn't think. One quote from this book that I think showed this are "Empty is strong" and "I breathe in slowly. Food is life. I exhale, take another breath. Food is life. And that's the problem. When your alive, people can hurt you. Its easier to crawl into a bone cage or a snowdrift of confusion. Its easier to lock everyday out."

Eight Keys

By Suzanne LaFleur

This book is about a girl named Elise who finds a key that opens one of eight door that has always been locked. As she discoveries these keys and whats behind the doors, she learns more about her deceased parents and herself.
"The Trouble all started right before the first day of sixth grade, the last time Franklin and I played Knights." This into didn't really hook me, but it did make me want to know what "the trouble" meant and who Franklin was.
I liked this book, but I didn't love it. It was a pretty quick read though. Not really any maturity warnings.

You

By Caroline Kepnes

This book is about a man who owns a book store. A woman comes into his store one day and he feels a connection. He takes control of her life and will do anything to get close to her. I liked this book, but I didn't love it. I think that it was a little to mature for me. I would not suggest it if you are not comfortable with reading about sex, violence or lots of cursing. I really liked how this book was written. I kept finding myself rooting for the villain. I also liked how many of the mature parts did not go into much or really any detail so you still know whats going on, but its not as uncomfortable.
